I had a gig the night of the Newtown, CT shooting.

I questioned whether or not I should even step foot on stage. It all seemed so meaningless.

I have two kids. One in pre-K, the other in Kindergarten. My wife is a 1st grade teacher.

The tragedy REALLY hit home and it was hard to get on stage and be funny.

However, I did – and the crowd went crazy that night.

If there’s one thing this world needs, it’s more laughter.

The average child laughs over 400 times per day. The average adult laughs only 15.

The world lost a lot of laughs that morning in Newtown.

Insanity.

After that webinar yesterday…that’s pretty much my life right now.

How insane?

It’s like this: an hour ago my wife called and said we need eggs.

Unfortunately, I was seconds away from home and minutes away from a phone appointment.

No time.

However, it’s chicken parm night and no eggs = no yummy.

Unacceptable.

We racked our brains. We screamed and yelled. We blamed each other. (That’s what happens when you’re insane…you fight over an egg.) Our entire evening, no, our entire lives hinged on one stupid egg.

I would have laid it myself if I could.

I almost did.

Then I remembered the lesson of last night’s webinar…

“Leverage”!

What do I have RIGHT NOW that I can leverage into an egg? (Well…I have a silk in my case…hmmm…maybe add a little woofle dust?)

Then it hit me…

FRIENDS!

I have neighbors and they probably have eggs!

I ran next door, borrowed an egg, and ran home.

Problem solved. Soon I’ll be eating until I can’t walk.

Then you’ll need to use leverage just to get me off the couch.

This is an interesting little piece done up nicely by Andrew Makar.

The results are fascinating, however there is one major flaw with the procedure. If one magician asks another magician what he charges, he’s probably going to give you a much higher number than if a client asked the same question.

Also, the survey was conducted with open fields instead of multiple choice. This allows for some possible typos. There are two results in particular that make me question whether an extra zero was added, or whether one was left off by mistake.

For these reasons, I’m looking at this survey with some real interest, but I’m not putting a whole lot of stock in the very high fees or the very low fees.
