hey my name is daniel.im always looking and digging, always looking to learn something new in our strange, beautiful art. some really big messages that no matter how many magicians i talk to i always here 4 major things 1. never give up. even if your so tired of performing, no one is liking your tricks, and u keep “dropping card”. keep pushing on, if u have the drive you’ll get there. 2 always practice, work you fingers to the bone, i cant tell you how many paper cuts ive gotten from a deck of cards, i always seem to have one my hands. and 3. think for yourself. you’ll never go very far if all you do is buy your tricks from someone else. dont get me wrong they are a huge advantage to your arsennal, but come up with your own tricks, or personnalize tricks you learn from someone. put a twist on them. and last and probly the most important 4. HAVE FUN! if your not enjoying performing or, sharing your magic you probly shouldnt be doing it. so find tricks and routines that make u laugh, the more comfortable you are the more your audience will think” wow this guy/girl knows what they are doing.

I think the biggest lesson is that you need to develop a distinctive style. All the magicians listed have very distinct and different ways of performing, and all have proven that you can be successful performing in a variety of ways. This is something that is hard to do, and as a magician I am always trying to learn a trick and then “make it my own.”

Hi Tim,
That’s so cool! Do you think so?
Im a fan of David Copperfield, David Blaine and Criss Angel.
Be it cool or odd, each of them have their own style of magic. And I think that’s the coolest thing about magic because you get to create your own magic

Tim, I believe there are several lessons to be learned by these magicians. I am 33 years old and got my start with David Copperfield, of course, and I have seen him 3 times in person, once when I was in the US Army in Germany, and two times here in the United States. Anyway, starting with Copperfield he is so cool and confident. He has the best stage presence which helps with his pre show butterflies im sure.
Then you have street magicians like David Blain, Criss Angel, Daniel Garcia and Wayne Houchin. These guys have very good manipulative skills (which is good to have for mentalist magic) and good for confidence. Also they dress the part. They are comfortable, dress to be different, what I mean by this is that we magicians need to dress above the crowd so to speak, because people expect a great show. Most of them wear black, but if not others have their own subtleties like “M” rings or big band watches and so on. So from these magicians and what I see I have learned that Confidence, Practice, Being able to talk to people with confidence and manipulate their thoughts and Dress the part. These 4 major things I think have helped me and could help anybody who is serious to become a better magician.

i want to make things short. i learned many things from these people. but the most important one was “never give up” let me start with Penn And Teller, they reveal magic’s secrets dont u think that as a magician you hate them? the secrets you guard are revealed by them. they maybe hated by magicians but they r loved by others. they don’t give up their revealing style do they? Now David Blaine, though he currently sucks in magic. he still does magic somewhere in the world. maybe a stage show. he didn’t give up Lance and Criss Angel, these guys r crazy.(mostly Criss) Criss puts himself in some life threatening situations. you dont see him quit on that. He started magic when he was a kid. and i know how hard it is to keep up with magic and school. if u do your homework u start to forget magic.(im a student)he didn’t give up. many people around me tell me that i should stop practicing magic and start reading more. my whole family makes fun of me because of that.(except my father) so I SHOULDN’T GIVE UP ON MAGIC JUST BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE DONT LIKE IT OR NO MATTER HOW MUCH I SUCK IN THIS ART, I WONT GIVE UP. hope u understand me.

I had finished read the article and then I think the biggest lesson from it. And finally I found 5 big lessons from the article:
1. Do our magic (and the other job) with our heart. I mean we have to be sincerely when doing magic. We enjoy our magic and the audiences will enjoy our magic too.
2. We must dedicate our magic every time we perform. Always do and give the best for someone, it can be the audience, our parents, the former magician, etc. Makes a good impression from the audience.
3. We must loyal with our hobby (in this case magic). Without a loyalty what we want to get becomes more difficult or maybe our dream will disappear.
4. Be creative. Just be yourself. It’s okay if we imitate someone first, but then we must do the work with our style.
5. Always optimistic to what we want to get with magic. It will useless if we doing magic without any purpose. We have to get the reason why we doing magic what we want to get by doing this art. Then we must make our level up until we reach our dream, don’t downgrading your dream.
That are the lessons I get after read the article. I’m sorry if my comment difficult for you to understand it because I’m an Indonesian.
